Artis-Naples upcoming performances

For Marco Islanders, permanent or visiting, the entertainment gifts kick in after Christmas, as Artis-Naples (formerly Naples Philharmonic) offers a scintillating schedule of performances.

First up, on December 26, 27, 28 & 29, are performances of Leonard Bernstein’s classic “West Side Story.” Based on the story of Romeo & Juliet but set in 20th Century New York, the music is stunning , the choreography is stirring and the cast of this Broadway cast serves up excellence.

Next comes a beloved New Year’s Eve tradition as the orchestra presents a Viennese New Year’s Eve concert, followed by a post-concert reception to usher in 2014.

Then, on January 3 & 4, the orchestra performs works by Mendelssohn, Ravel and Mussorgsky’s colorful “Pictures at an Exhibition.”
